TMJ is short for
Temporomandibular Joints, the two joints which connect your jaw to your head. The term MPD is short for the term Myofascial Pain Dysfunction used to describe a group of symptoms which involve pain in the muscles around the face.
The symptoms of TMJ include:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Numbness in fingers and arms
- Difficulty swallowing
- Limited movement or locking of the jaw
- Clicking or grating sounds in the jaw joints
- Pain behind the eyes
- Neck, shoulder or back pain
- Facial pain
- Earaches or ringing in the ears
- Pain or soreness in and around the jaw joints
